Holistic Review refers to an admissions process that considers a variety of factors—life experiences, attributes(human qualities), and academic measures—when reviewing applications. Holistic review allows admissions officers to consider the “whole” applicant(context), rather than disproportionately focusing on any one factor. Therefore, students must recognize that the only thing that you have control of during this process, is merely the personal statement and various college supplements if your school even has any. Please understand that these admission officers and universities will always take into your context when evaluating you as an applicant, and they will determine whether or not you took advantage of the resources that have been provided for you.
Please use the additional information section on the Common Application for an elaboration on extenuating circumstances that may have interfered with your academic and personal life during this year!
