FAFSA

​    FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Aid) 
  • Opens Oct.1st
  • Operated By the Department of Education Only for US. Citizens & Permanent Residents (Parents don’t have to be either)
  • Just collects Income information (Can transfer info from IRS & Tax Returns from 2019 or 2020)
  • Used to calculate EFC(Expected Family Contribution)
  • Used by ALL institutions
  • Qualifies you for Federal, and sometimes state and institutional aid

FAFSA Basic Info:

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opens on October 1 each year. Seniors!!! You are eligible to apply for federal financial aid through this system. FAFSA is a free application, and it will determine its amount of federal financial aid through household income. Therefore, information such as parent income, relationship, and assets will be taken into consideration.
The deadline is usually the end of June during your respective school year, but please fill out these applications as soon as possible(October-February)

How to Create a FAFSA ID?

*Before you fill out the FAFSA, you must create a FAFSA ID
*The FSA ID is a username and password that gives you access to the FAFSA
Reminder:
If you have a sibling in college, it It is possible that your parents already have a FSA ID
If that is so, you will need to ask them what the username and password is!
Steps:​
  1. Log into www.fafsa.ed.gov
  2. Click on the link “To create an FSA ID” (Top of page)
  3. Create a Username and password, and enter your e-mail address
  4. Enter your name, date of birth, social security number, contact information, and challenge questions and answers.
  5. Review your information, and read and accept the terms and conditions.
  6. Confirm your e-mail address using the secure code, which will be sent to the e-mail address you entered when you created your FSA ID. Once you verify your e-mail address, you can use it instead of your username to log into the website

Important Disclaimer!

*If your parents do not have a Social Security Number, you do not need to create a FAFSA Id for your parents. Instead, you mail the signature form!
*Also for seniors in the class of 2021, please choose 2021-2021 as that is referencing to your freshman year of college(Not 2020-2021)!

Other Information Needed to Apply!

  1. Parents' 2019 taxes and W-2s
  2. Student’s 2019 taxes and W-2s(if applicable)
  3. Social Security Number 
  4. Parents' recent bank statements or record of any other types of income(if applicable to your financial situation)
  5. FSA ID(if you have a SSN)
